my brother-in-law's sister, anna, used to work in slovenia with the josiah venture. one of the girls she got to know over there is now going to BU and will be staying with us for a few days while she finds a place to live.
(ps we have had a lot of people stay with us since moving to eastie...must be our awesome house...or maybe the proximity to the airport).
anyway, good to be a home for ziva while she makes her transition to boston.

50059 Day 313
old_orchard_beach
took students to maine today to enjoy the beach. of course, it ended up raining...which we turned in to fun time exploring the little beach town (closest thing to santa cruz we have in our area). we played some games, ate ice cream, and connected with new friends.
weird story of the day: we had to rent a car because of the jeep issues (see yesterday's post), and i ended up leaving my phone in the car when we dropped it off. luckily i realized this before we got home, so we trekked back to rental office, found the car, looked inside and found nothing. amy decided to call my phone, though, and someone actually answered! one of the cleaners had picked it up and was hoping the owner would call. he told us to meet him on the other side of the rental area and when we got over there i immediately recognized him as the night janitor from the nathan hale, the school i worked at last year. what a strange, small world. we had a good time reconnecting and i got my phone back!

38559 Day 192
idaho_pt_2
i realize i haven't explained what i am doing in idaho at all. we're here (some of us from both sojourn and reunion) to learn from a church that is doing discipleship and small groups really well. one of our "mother" organizations thought this would be a good experience for us (and they were probably right...despite my not so hot attitude about it).
anyway, every time i got to something like this i tend to run in to someone i know from some other chapter of my life. i mentioned this off to one of the guys on the way in and not more than two minutes later i ran into will hoffman (svcc friend). turns out he's on staff at this church now. small world.

- a small world story...
thursday i was sitting in a coffee shop on newbury street talking with someone from church. in the middle of the conversation he paused and slyly nodded towards another table. "i think that guy is reading a christian book," he told me. i looked over, half expecting to see Blue Like Jazz or something by Rob Bell, but it turned out to be Responsible Stewardship of God's Creation by Ken Gnanakan. Ken is the founder of ACTS ministries in Bangalore, India, a ministry I visited a couple of years ago (amy has been there as well), and long time partner with SVCC. apparently, the fellow reading the book heard Ken speak at Gordon-Conwell and is fascinated by what he is doing in India. Ben, my new friend, and I are having coffee on tuesday. nice!
