52459 Day 337
angela's
this is our new favorite place to eat in eastie. and it is right at the end of our block...dangerously close. we ate here tonight to celebrate amy taking her national board exam (be a few days before we know the results). angela's is so incredible that you must be careful not to look at its luminescent awesomeness directly lest you burn your corneas.
it is that good.

51059 Day 323
airport
today i made a run to the airport to pick up some people coming in to town this weekend for our friend's (and co-sojourn workers) wedding. all told we will have made four airport runs in the last week. amy joked that since we only live a few minutes away maybe we should start a business!

49459 Day 307
preaching
had the opportunity and privilege to speak at Reunion, our church, today. i had fun and i think it went well. didn't get a picture in action because its kind of weird to be photographed by your wife when you are speaking but a friend and artist make this drawing while i was talking. cool!
also, several new reasons to love our neighborhood: hanging out in the backyard and meeting neighbors, free basil from the community garden, and seeing the fireworks show from piers park without being surrounded by a million people.

45659 Day 266
east_boston
i haven't spent too much time talking about moving in this space, but for a while now amy and i have been pondering moving out of dorchester to east boston. "eastie", as it is known around these parts, is the other, much smaller, forgotten neighborhood of boston. everyone knows dorchester and the reputation that surrounds it, but i've been shocked at how many people don't even know eastie exists. in fact, one person i was telling about our move couldn't figure east boston out: "so, is that like, in the middle of the ocean?"
we feel attracted to this area for a couple of reasons. one is that the "feel" of the neighborhood is an interesting mix of san francisco (architecture) and east salinas culture. the first time we drove through to check it out we were both overwhelmed with a feeling of home. it's also home to many immigrants, mostly spanish speakers from central and south america. from what we've gathered, eastians have a bit of a chip on their shoulders for being invisible to the rest of boston. finally, neither reunion nor sojourn have any real presence in the neighborhood and that felt attractive to us as well.
all that so say, we've felt pulled in this direction for a little while. and today we signed a lease and will be eastie residents come july! we are super excited about this opportunity (not excited about moving so soon) and feel that a good story is waiting to be told in east boston.
